AI development tools have compressed timelines that used to stretch across months into something that fits inside a few weeks. That acceleration is real. But the work that starts the moment you push to production is the layer most teams underestimate.
The designers getting the most out of AI are not the ones using it to automate everything. They are the ones using it to compress the parts that eat the most time, so they can spend more of it on the work that actually requires judgment.
Speed without intention is where shortcuts accumulate. AI amplifies whatever process you bring to it. If that process is thoughtful, you get better work faster. If it is reactive, you get the same problems, sooner.
AI has not eliminated the phases of product development. It has compressed them, and unevenly. The places where AI saves the most time are not always the places where teams expected it would.
Building with AI and running with AI are two different disciplines. The teams that figure this out before launch end up with platforms that age well. The ones that figure it out after get a different kind of education.
